"Ritual Effect" new paintings by Janet Doroba
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 4
3656 N. Lincoln Ave, Suite F. Chicago, IL 60613
"Harvest Sprite", oil on canvas, 36"x36"
Janet Doroba, half of the artistic duo Calaj, developed, along with partner Matthew Schaefer, a ritual process of painting.
The steps of this ritual are designed to challenge psychic limits, bringing meditation, allowing the transformation of emotional energy. The effort of intense artistic focus opens reception and transmission, the limitless expression of the unknown.
The purpose of this conceptual work is not to depict but rather to physically manifest spiritual energy onto the canvas. “We accept the outcome of the paintings, walking away without trying to fix it to preconceived ideas. In this way we gain new creative knowledge with each painting.”
The unfolding of Janet’s personal work being shown, records intervals of both artistic and spiritual growth through this ritual process. The show includes both “walk away” paintings created through the Calaj process and the abstract paintings she’s known for. Showing both styles of painting together exhibits knowledge gained through ritual as the authentic expression of energy carrying over to her abstract painting style.
